Keegan Drugan, who will be a senior at Holmen High School this fall, and James DeBoer, who will be an eighth-grade student at Holmen Middle School later this year, will both play in the Wisconsin State Golf Association's Junior Boys Championships Monday through Wednesday at Drugan's Castle Mound Country Club in Holmen.

The event will feature 54 holes of stroke play, cutting to the low 84 and ties from the starting 192 players for the final 18 holes Wednesday.

Drugan, playing on his home course. tees off Monday at 7:30 a.m on the 1st hole. DeBoer tees off at 7:54 a.m.

Mike Drugan, owner at course superintendent at Drugan's, said the course was asked to host both last year's Governor's Cup and this year's Junior Boys Championships about four years ago. Drugan said the course will prepared like it is for any state or regional event at the course, a group that in the past six weeks has included a Three Rivers Golf Association event and the annual Lawn Care Cup.

“It's prestigious just to be asked to host a tournament of this nature and we're definitely gearing up for it,” Drugan said. “The Senior County Am, this tournament and the Men's County Am all work together.

“Our biggest challenge will be keeping the green speeds up. Some timely rain would help.”

Drugan said possible favorites in the event could include Antigo senior-to-be Kelly Kretz, Waukesha North junior-to-be Patrick Cahill and Ben Sieg, a 2006 Osseo-Fairchild graduate who took fourth at last month's Division 3 state meet. Sieg will play at Marquette this fall.

“Three rounds at 1- or 2-under par would be a pretty good score,” Drugan said. “I'd take my chances at 6 under.”

“These kids are good players and the par-5s here are reachable in two. The biggest defense we have as a golf course in our green speed and we want to get them to County Amateur speed Monday.”
