Last week, millions of Americans witnessed Bob Barker bid farewell to his television audience.
The pop culture icon’s retirement from the Price is Right marked the end of a daytime television dynasty. Who’s going to remind us to get our pets spayed or neutered? Who’s going to give away those new cars and help the elderly spin the big wheel? Those questions are undoubtedly on the minds of many.
I’ve heard some people say they want Bob Eubanks, George Hamilton or John O’Hurley. One person told me he wanted to see Ryan Seacrest from American Idol to host the Price is Right.
Naturally, there are the arm-chair hosts, like me, who think they can succeed Bob Barker, but the chances of that happening are the same as both contestants bidding exactly right for the Showcase Showdown.
As for whom Bob would like to see host the show, he put in his bid for Rosie O’Donnell.
Rosie O’Donnell?
I know she boosted the ratings for “The View”, but please. The ratings for “The View” didn’t go up until after Rosie engaged Donald Trump in a war of words. Ratings for “The View” continued to climb with every leftist rant Rosie made. The TV ratings didn’t climb because of her. They climbed in spite of her. Why Bob Barker would like to see Rosie take over for him is beyond me.
Bob Barker’s reason behind his Rosie endorsement goes back to when Rosie had Bob on her daytime talk show. Evidently, Rosie said she wanted to host the show one day. Well, what fan of the Price is Right doesn’t want to host the show?
I’d like to host the show. I’d love to give away prizes, and dramatize contestants’ wins and losses, but that doesn’t mean I’d get the job.
Bob’s other reason for wanting Rosie to take his place is because she’s a woman. I’m all for equal opportunity employment, but Price is Right aficionados know that over the past 35 years only Hershey’s Chocolate has generated more kisses than Bob Barker, but who would the ladies kiss now?
I just don’t see Rosie O’Donnell as a wise choice for Bob Barker’s successor. She might raise the ratings for a short time on the Price is Right for the sake of novelty. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ratings would spiral down after she redefines the option on the cars she’ll give away n California Emissions that comply with the Clean Air Act. Rosie’s California Emissions involve the smog of vitriol toward anything with which she disagrees.
It seems Bob’s bid went over the actual retail price America and CBS have set forth to replace him.
