Viterbo University students Katherine Weber and Anna Koll have been named Liberace Scholars for the 2008-09 academic year.

Weber and Koll each will receive this prestigious $4,000 scholarship, which are made possible by a grant from the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts and matching funds from Viterbo.

Weber, a native of Holmen, is a music vocal performance major at Viterbo. She has won first place in the state National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, and she was Miss Holmen 2007 and a participant in the Miss Wisconsin Pageant.

She is active in the Viterbo Concert Choir, and sang the role of Katherine in the Viterbo production of “Riders to the Sea.” Weber most recently sang the role of Katy in “Plain and Fancy,” the same role her mother, Rebecca (Granum) Weber, sang in the 1977 Viterbo production of the musical.

A native of Appleton, Koll is a music education major at Viterbo. She has won a first place at the state NATS competition, and two third-place awards in NATS national auditions. She is active with the St. Francis Choir, regularly performs in music department recitals and has participated in the annual Viterbo Opera Scenes production.

The mission of the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts is to help talented students pursue careers in the performing and creative arts through scholarship assistance. Viterbo is one of only 110 colleges and universities in the U.S. to be awarded a Liberace Foundation grant in the past 32 years. This is the eighth consecutive year in which Viterbo has received an award.
