If you have read the book “All the President’s Men” or saw the movie, you might remember a part which shows Woodward and Bernstein watching Vice President Spiro Agnew making some comment about something and saying “that’s a non-denial denial.”
So I will call U.S. Rep. Ron Kind’s staff’s recent letter to the editor as a “non-reply reply.” By that I mean, Yes they did reply and I have 13 of them on my computer to prove it. Here is that reply:
“Thank you for e-mailing me your thoughts and comments. It is important that I know the views of my fellow Wisconsinites so I can carry out my responsibilities in the United States Congress.
“I appreciate hearing from you, and I look forward to considering your comments further. I will respond more fully to your e-mail as soon as possible.”
That’s it. I will let the reader decide if that addresses a question by me on the issue of raising the eligible age for congressmen and presidents; abolishing the capital gains tax; congressional term limits; removing the jus soli clause from the 14th Amendment; abolishing the Department of Education; lowering corporate taxes to make them more competitive; abolishing “rider” bills; banning for life ex-congressmen from being Washington lobbyists.
Did they reply? Yes. Did they comment on any of the issues I asked about? No. Did they “respond more fully?” No. Did I receive some comments on other issues? Yes. (i.e., U.S. withdrawal from the UN, he is against it). I even received comments on issues I never asked about.
You decide who is closer to the truth.
