Emily Lezpona of the Holmen FFA chapter was elected to serve as the 2008-09 Section 3 State FFA officer at the 79th Wisconsin FFA Convention held last weekend in Madison.

Lezpona, the daughter of Fred and Patti Lezpona, has been an active leader for many years in her local chapter, which is led by advisers Roger King and Diane King. She served as chapter president and treasurer, presented at the Food for America Equine Station and attended the Advanced Leadership Development Conference. In addition, Emily was recognized with the Dale Carnegie Scholarship and the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.

Lezpona has a supervised agricultural experience program in equine science and started her project with ownership of a gelding and a foal, through which she said she learned the importance of responsibility and dedication.

Emily attends UW-River Falls, where she is majoring in psychology with a minor in speech communications. She hopes to become a counselor for adolescents and families.

During Lezpona’s year as a state FFA officer, she will meet thousands of FFA members and will travel more than 10,000 miles. In addition to meeting with members on the local, state and national levels, the entire state officer team will meet with leaders in government, education, business, and agriculture.

“I want to see every FFA member develop essential life skills — especially leadership, human relation skills and teamwork,” Lezpona said. “I want to motivate others to truly aspire for their dreams and to achieve them with a plan of action.”
