Sam Johnson had a two-run double, while Sam Stenson had a two-run single to help the Holmen Merchants 16-and-under softball team to a 9-3 win in the second game and a split of a doubleheader with Logan July 9.

Stenson also was the winning pitcher in game two, allowing just three hits and two walks over five innings in a complete game. Kelsey Henderson also added two hits.

“We had a lot of baseruners in the second game,” Merchants head coach Bergen Schaller said. “We also had a lot of timely hitting.”

Casey Puent added an RBI triple, while Brittany Gooden added a double and reached base twice. Amanda Schauland also had a hit and reached base twice.

Despite two doubles from Stenson, Holmen took an 8-3 loss in the opener. Henderson drove in two runs, while Gooden had a hit and an RBI. Johnson took the loss, striking out two.

Holmen plays a doubleheader at Central Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Merchants played a doubleheader at Chaseburg-Coon Valley Wednesday evening (after the Courier deadline).
